Surprise is one of the seven universal emotions and arises when we encounter sudden and unexpected sounds or movements. As the briefest of the universal emotions, its function is to focus our attention on determining what is happening and whether or not it is dangerous.
If you knew that awareness of emotions in this simple way, would you let them dominate your life. Or would you accept there feeling (pain) and allow yourself to feel them and move them up and down the scale as you learn to accept their presence and feeling.
Emotions do not go away they just change in frequency and impact. The more we fight against them the more intense the pain gets.
