Origin of the name: “Lemuria” was coined in the 1800s by zoologist Philip Sclater. He noticed fossil lemurs in both Madagascar and India and hypothesised a lost land bridge between them.
Scientific fate: Continental-drift theory later made such a bridge unnecessary; the “continent” never existed in geology.
Mythic after-life: Theosophical writers in the late 19th century (Blavatsky, Leadbeater, etc.) transformed Lemuria into a prehistoric civilisation that supposedly preceded Atlantis—an early human or even pre-human epoch that ended in cataclysm.
So, in accepted Earth science there was no Lemurian continent; it’s a mythic symbol born from an outdated scientific guess.

So the “end of Lemuria” was the compression event that created material Earth: spirit folding into matter to rediscover itself through limits.
